TV programme formats were designed for the unique distribution mechanism that is broadcast TV. 30 and 60 minute blocks of video broken up by commercial messages; soaps, series and serials; two part dramas, 13 episodes. All of these formats came about from years of refinement to the broadcast model.
In the 21st century, this model still flourishes, but has been joined by a variety of new mechanisms which bring their own and format opportunities and constraints. Decipher is working with broadcasters and platforms on ideas for how programming and channels can be configured for the unique opportunities offered by red button interactivity, IPTV, PVRs, VOD and mobile.
At the same time, we are looking at the changing role of broadcast channels and broadcast brands in the increasingly complex and confusing world of Future TV.
